Pa’lante Venezuela: Gaitas, Parranda & Christmas for solidarity

A Venezuelan Christmas celebration raising funds for children affected by the earthquake in Venezuela.

Join us on Saturday 21 November at SOAS Student Bar for an afternoon and evening of live music with Luzmira Zerpa and the Venezuelan Jam Collective , bringing the sounds of gaitas, parrandas y aguinaldos to London.

There'll be traditional Venezuelan Christmas food, singing, dancing and a raffle, all to help children and teenagers whose lives have been disrupted by the earthquake.

Why we're coming together Months after the earthquake, many families in Venezuela are still living in temporary shelters. Children have been unable to return to school, parents have lost their livelihoods and communities are facing a long road to recovery. The first weeks of an emergency often bring the most attention. But rebuilding lives takes much longer. We know there are people in need across the world. This Christmas, we're asking you to keep Venezuela in your thoughts too.

Profits from the event will support earthquake relief through Chamos.org , a UK based charity with a dedicated fund helping children and teenagers in affected communities access education, healthcare and other essential support.

Around US$750 can cover a child's education for a year. Funds raised will help support children's education, mental health care and access to safe drinking water.

What's happening? 🎶 Live Venezuelan music: Gaitas, Parrandas y Aguinaldos, the sounds of a Venezuelan Christmas. Come ready to sing and dance! 🍽️ Traditional Christmas food: Asado negro, pernil, ensalada de gallina and bollitos will be available to buy, with part of the proceeds going towards the fundraiser.

🎟️ Christmas raffle: A chance to win prizes and raise more funds for Venezuela. 🍻 Drinks: SOAS Student Bar will be open throughout the event, with drinks available to purchase. Bring your family, your friends and your Christmas spirit. Whether you grew up celebrating Christmas in Venezuela or have never heard a gaita before, you're welcome.
